So here we have a practice problem that's asking, how does the axon structure reflect its function? And we've got these 4 potential answer options down below. And so recall from our previous lesson videos that the axon is going to be a long and thin portion that extends off of the cell body or the soma of the neuron, and it's going to be carrying outgoing electrical signals. And so, just based on the fact that we know that axons are going to be long and thin, we can eliminate some of these answer options here. And so notice that answer option d says that the axons are always short so that they so that electrical impulses can travel through it quickly. But again, we know that this is not going to be the case. Exons tend to be long, and in some cases, they can be several feet long, making neurons the longest cells in the human body. And so to say that exons are always short is simply not going to be correct, and that's why we can eliminate answer option d. Now notice answer option c says that the axons are thick in order to self regulate. But once again, we know that axons tend to be thin. And so to say that axons are thick is not going to be correct, so we can eliminate option C. So now we're between either option A or option B. And notice that option B says that the axon is tough in order to protect itself from damage. But we know that this is not going to be the case. We know that axons and neurons in general are pretty delicate cells. And this is why the neurons rely on neuroglia or glial cells to provide support and protection. And so, to say that the axon is going to be tough, again, is not going to be correct. So, we can eliminate option b. And so, of course, this leaves answer option a as the correct answer, which says that axons can be long so that it can carry electrical signals long distances. And again, we know that axons tend to be long. In some cases, they can be several feet long. Again, making neurons the longest cells in the human body. And so once again, option a here is the correct answer, and that concludes this practice. So I'll see you all in the next video.
