  • Confidence Interval

A range centered on a sample mean, constructed to estimate a population mean with a specified probability.
  • Margin of Error

The maximum amount by which a sample estimate may differ from the true population value in a confidence interval.
  • Sample Size

The number of observations or subjects included in a statistical sample.
  • Population Mean

The average value of a variable for the entire group being studied.
  • Critical Z-Value

A number from the standard normal distribution corresponding to a specified confidence level.
  • Standard Deviation

A measure of the spread or variability of a set of data values.
  • Degrees of Freedom

The number of independent values in a calculation, often equal to sample size minus one.
  • Range Rule of Thumb

An estimation method where the standard deviation is approximated by dividing the range by four.
  • Confidence Level

The probability that a confidence interval contains the true population parameter.
  • Prior Information

Data or estimates from previous studies used to inform current statistical calculations.
  • T Critical Value

A value from the t-distribution used when estimating population parameters with small samples.
  • Maximum Margin of Error

The largest allowable difference between the sample estimate and the population parameter.
  • Estimation

The process of inferring the value of a population parameter based on sample data.
  • Whole Number Rounding

The practice of increasing a decimal sample size to the next integer to ensure statistical requirements are met.
