How are alleles for sex-linked traits typically inherited in humans?

Note that most sex-linked traits are X-linked because the X chromosome carries many more genes than the Y chromosome.

Since males have only one X chromosome, a single recessive allele on that X chromosome will result in expression of the trait, whereas females would need two copies of the recessive allele (one on each X chromosome) to express the trait.
