Cyclo alkane B, ether ketone, CYO alkane C ether ketone alcohol, aromatic ring or D ether aldehyde alcohol aromatic ring. So we can't really analyze this until we have the structure of Vanillin. So we can look that up in a book or online. And Vanillin has this benzene ring, put that on there with its alternating double bonds and that of course makes sense. It gives off a pleasant scent compounds with benzene rings in them are known as aromatics. So that definitely makes sense. It has a group here. We've got a carbon with a double bond to an oxygen and then two carbons away from that, we have an oxygen bound to a Carmen and then one carbon away from that, we have an oh group. So let's look at this structure and pick out which functional groups we have. Obviously, we have our aromatic ring. So choices C and D have aromatic ring in them. Choices A and B say cyclo alkane. So we have a cyclic ring compound obviously, but because of those three double bonds and the way the electrons are in a cloud um delocalized around the ring, that's what makes it an aromatic ring, not just a cycle alkane, which would have only single bonds in the ring as indicated by that A ne ending. So choices A and B are incorrect since they list CYO Alcaine instead of aromatic ring. Now, let's look at our three substituents and label them as functional groups. So the oh is a simple one, that would be an alcohol. And we see choices C and D both have alcohol in them. Now, we have our C with a double bond to an O. We recall that we've got two or more than two groups, but the simplest two groups with that carbonel group. So see double monitor and O if we have a single R group attached to that Carmen with a hydrogen on the other side, we recall that that's an aldehyde. Whereas if we have two different R groups attached to that carbon carbon, that is a key toone. So in this case, all we have is our one carbon with an oxygen. The our group is the aromatic ring. There is no other R group. This would be an unwritten hydrogen on the side. So that means that this group here is an aldehyde, not a key to. So we see that choice C says ketone. So we cross that out. Whereas choice D has aldehyde and then finally, we have our last functional, our last substituent, we have this oxygen as a benzene ring on one side and a methyl group on the other. And that makes it an ether. And ether is when you have an R group linked to an oxygen linked to a second R group. And we see choice D does indeed, we've already gotten down to choice D by elimination. It does indeed have ether there. We can see that in choice C which we've already eliminated. But if we want to be thorough, it has ester as the other functional group. But in ester, while it does have this oxygen in between two carbons, it has an R group, an oxygen that's then bonded to a carbon group. And then another art group. So that has the added carbonel group in there where we only have an ether, it's just the oxygen in between two carbons, no carbonel involved. So astra is also incorrect in choice C.
