Hey, guys. So let's check out this problem here. We have a real life story. This actually happened. A meteor did actually crash into somewhere around Arizona. It's called meteor crater about 5000 years ago. So we actually have the mass of this meteor, and we also have the amount of energy that it released because of the explosion. And we wanna figure out the approximate speed of this meteor before impact. Well, basically what happens is that you have this meteor that's coming in and hitting the earth, and it's gonna release all of its kinetic energy. So the way we relate mass, speed and energy is by the kinetic energy equation, where k is gonna equal 1 half m v squared. So we have our kinetic energy k or ke. We also have the mass and we wanna figure out the approximate speed of this media before it impacted. So we're just gonna go ahead and solve for this equation. We're gonna rearrange to solve for v. So So when you move the one half m over to the other side, you're gonna get 2 k divided by m is equal to v squared. And so what we can do is we could just take the square roots. So your v is gonna equal the square root of 2 times 1 times 10 to 16th joules, that's the kinetic energy, divided by the mass, which is 1.4 times 10 to the 8th. You You gotta plug this into your calculator and take the square roots and what you're gonna get is a number that's really close to about 12,000 meters per second. So it's about 12 kilometers per second. That's how fast this thing was going before it hit the ground. It released an enormous amount of energy. It left a big old crater in the ground. Alright.
