Chi Square Distribution
A right-skewed, asymmetric probability model used for analyzing variance, defined only for positive values.
Variance
A measure of data spread, calculated as the square of the standard deviation, essential for confidence intervals.
Critical Value
A cutoff point from a statistical table that marks the boundaries of a confidence interval for a parameter.
Degrees of Freedom
A value, typically n minus one, representing the number of independent values in a calculation.
Confidence Interval
A range constructed from sample data that likely contains the true value of a population parameter.
Alpha
The probability of error in a statistical test, found by subtracting the confidence level from one.
Right Tail
The upper end of a probability distribution, associated with higher critical values and smaller areas.
Left Tail
The lower end of a probability distribution, associated with lower critical values and larger areas.
Chi Square Table
A reference chart used to find cutoff points for the chi square distribution based on area and degrees of freedom.
Standard Deviation
A measure of data dispersion, whose square is used in variance calculations for statistical inference.
Asymmetry
A property of a distribution where the two sides are not mirror images, affecting how critical values are determined.
Positive Values
A characteristic of the chi square distribution, indicating that all possible outcomes are greater than or equal to zero.
Alpha Over Two
A tail area used to find one critical value in a two-tailed confidence interval, equal to half the total error probability.
One Minus Alpha Over Two
A complementary area used to find the other critical value in a two-tailed confidence interval.
Right Skew
A distribution shape where the tail extends further to the right, typical of the chi square distribution.
