Class Attendance

Attendance Policy

  • Students are allowed up to three (3) absences without penalty for classes meeting twice weekly.

  • Excess absences (over 10 days) will result in automatic failure (grade of F) for the course.

  • Attendance is tracked via classroom records; students must not "sign in" for others.

  • Students must notify the instructor and seek approval for excused absences before class begins.

  • Attendance is required from the first week; students not present may be dropped from the course.

Required Materials

Textbook and Software

  • Textbook: Algebra & Trigonometry with Interactive Assignments, 4th edition by Trigsted

  • ISBN-13: 9780131877485

  • Students must have access to the eText and required software for assignments.

Learning Outcomes

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  • Manipulate rational expressions and solve polynomial and rational inequalities.

  • Identify, evaluate, and graph functions, including polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions.

  • Analyze and solve equations involving algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic forms.

  • Graph and interpret trigonometric functions and their inverses.

  • Solve trigonometric equations and apply trigonometric identities.

  • Apply mathematical reasoning to real-world and theoretical problems.

Homework

Assignments and Grading

  • Homework is assigned for each section and counts toward a total of 100 points.

  • Assignments are completed online; instructions are provided by the instructor.

  • Homework is due by Friday, Dec 8 at 11:59 pm.

  • Late homework may be accepted with a penalty; assignments not submitted receive a grade of zero.

  • Lowest two homework scores are dropped at semester's end.

Exams and Grading

Tests and Final Exam

  • Five major tests are administered during the semester; the lowest test grade is dropped.

  • No make-up tests are given except for official university functions; rescheduling must be approved in advance.

  • The final exam is comprehensive, consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, and counts for 200 points.

  • Students must take the final exam at the scheduled time; no early or late exams are permitted.

  • Final exam week and section times are specified; students must check for their assigned slot.
